Maria is 49 years old. She had 5 children, but her husband died a few years ago and also 2 of her adult children died after being sick for a long time. They left the grandchildren with her before they died. She raised all of them, but now that they are big, they left the house. She has still got 4 people who eat from her house every day.
Maria has got 20 cashew nut trees and 2 mango trees. She plants maize, peanuts and beans when it rains.
Sad story: It is very bad for her to do all the work alone after her husband died. She also has a hearing problem and it makes her afraid, because she cannot always hear what is going on around her.
Happy things: Rain always makes her happy. The 3 children that she has left are good children. They come and help her sometimes. The previous season, when it started raining, she had no seed left from the previous year. It was to dry and she did not get any crop. One of her children then bought her some seed and came to help her to plant. That made her very happy.
At present she has no income to declare. She uses whatever she produces, to feed her dependants.
