Adriano is 40 years old and has 2 wives, Louisa 38 and Hortencia 25 years. They had 9 children, but one little girl died at the age of 1 year. The dependents in his house are 15 and include the mothers of his 2 wives. The family owns 6 cattle, 10 chickens, 2 mango trees and 30 cashew nut trees.
The saddest things that happened to him were his child that died and his father that was killed in 1994. His father and a friend of his father had a quarrel and started fighting. The friend picked up a piece of wood and hit his father with the piece of wood, but not meaning to kill him. His father fell dead on the spot.
The best thing that has happened to him was when he left to learn about cattle. He now found many people who ask him for advice and then pay him with some seed or food or even sometimes some money. This helps him a lot to provide for his family.
Adriano was working in South-Africa during 2006 and brought Mt 15000(USD275) back home. He used Mt 10000 to pay for everyone who tried to help his sick child. His wife used to other Mt5000 to buy cashew nuts in the area at Mt 8 /kilogram. She made it into packets and sold it again around town. Eventually she had Mt 18000 profit. During this time Adriaan has been away from home most of the time while he was learning about cattle. They decided to get a second wife for Adriaan and then paid the costs involved out of her profit and they bought their first cow for Mt 7000. That is how the live for them started and he will never forget that.
The family earns more or less Mt 10 000 per month (USD 160), but when times are good they do not get any money, because all are working in the fields. When times are bad, they would make fire wood or cut trees to sell and then to earn money to buy food.
