Joao is 44 years old and his wife, Florinda; 38 years .They has got 7 children and 9 people eat from their house every day.

The family owns 6 chickens, 32 cashew nut trees and 1 mango tree. The only sad thing in his life is that he never knew his father. He is very happy for his daughter who took a nice man. The man came to so thank you for Joao and his wife and then he also paid the traditional money. The most important is that his child is so happy.

The “never forget “story of Joao was the one story that really changed my view of the way the people are living. They feel like the first generation that really changed from an older type of living to an absolute new modern type of living (without realizing that it already happened hundreds of years ago in the rest of the world). They have got places where they plant food and not only get food from plants and trees in the bush, and they have got animals that live around their houses and do not need to go and hunt for food. They learned techniques to store food for the years when there is no rain. He described it as the new world and that it would not be long before everyone will follow them in what they are doing. He was lucky, because his grandfather already warned him and a few of his cousins, just before he died. He was like a sort of prophet, who could see what is going to happen in the future. He have told them that they will have to start to work really very hard so that they can stay in one place and would not need to travel around all time to follow where there are food in the bush . His grandfather was the inventor of their modern farming that they are practicing now. It was a very nice experience to visit Joao.

If they would get a lot of money to change the agriculture in the area, they would first make a lot of bore holes and equip them with solar pumps. Then he will work on de-bushing bigger area.

Their income is more or less Mt15000/ year (USD 275) they are very proud of this achievement. To have food and water and then also some money, is something new for them.
