Who are Fabiao and Seugineta  ?

Fabiao and Saugineta with one of their children and one of their grandchildren ..

Fabiao Ngombe is a 79 year old man from the Unguana area. His wife, Saugineta, is 77 years and both of them lived in the area of Unguana for all their live. Both of them can still show you where their parents lived and where they have been borne. They had 9 children, but 2 of their adult children died in the past year. The one child left 7 grandchildren to stay with Fabiao and Saugineta and the other child left 5 grandchildren. Some of these children already stayed with the grandparents for many years before their own parents died. Some of the grandchildren also are adults now and work and live on their own.  At this stage Fabiao has got 6 people eating at his house every day.

The family owns 4 cattle, 2 pigs, 3 goats, 20 chickens, 2 ducks, 3 mango trees, 24 coconut trees, 16 citrus trees and 20 Cashew nut trees. They have got 9.8 ha of land, of which 3.5 ha are de-bushed and on which they plant maize, peanuts, sorghum and beans. They lost everything during the war but slowly built up their small farm again. Unfortunately some misfortune strike in January 2017 and they lost many of their belongings.  They are very positive to work with AgriServi to change their piece of land into a semi-commercial farm.

Happy Story – They find all their happiness from the church and from all their friends in the area, who support each other through all times. They also find a lot of joy in seeing their crop grow and to see the children being able to go to school. They made a decision to stay happy, never mind what happen.

Sad Story - The war was very bad for them, but that was a long time ago. In January 2017 a big tragedy strikes on their small farm. Some thieves came at night and stole 8 of his goats and also his solar panel. Some cattle also got sick and he lost 6 of them in the end. It was also in this same time that 2 of his adult children died. This made him very sad, but life continues and it is better to decide to be happy again, no matter what happened.

Never forget Story - It was not easy to get a story from them and we are actually sorry that we motivated them to tell us a never-forget-story. Saugineta was the one that eventually started to tell the very heartbroken story of things that happened to her during the war. That is things they learned to forget, but now everything opened again while she recalled information to tell us her story. Tears were running down her face while she told us her story and even for us the rest of the day and the week have not been the same again. Saugineta was a young woman during the war times and she loved making food. One day when she was preparing a big pot of food for the family, some soldiers arrived and wanted the pot of food. They forced her to carry the food for them and eventually she had to stay with the group of soldiers for one year before she managed to escape. During this time she feels that God protected her in the same way he protected Daniel and his friends from the Bible. Many times people would be killed and then God closed their eyes before they could kill her. Even on her last day with the soldiers, she was hiding in a trap for catching game.  The big piece of wood in the trap that was supposed to fall down on her and to crush her to death never came down. The angels must have held it throughout the night while she was hiding there. She only returned to her family after more than one year.

Dream for the area:   Saugineta told us what she would do if she received a lot of money to help the area with alleviation of hunger. She would use all the money to de-bush the area and then she would buy a lot of oxen and ploughs to prepare all area for planting.

Their own dream: Fabiao say that for his own dream it would be the same than the dream of Sauginneta If they would receive some help, they would first use some money to help them to de-bush more of their land. They would then plough it and plant more maize. They understand the concept of semi-commercial farming and would like to change their land into a semi-commercial farm.

Present income: They cannot calculate any income. They have lost more over the past year than what they have made in many good years before .They have got friends and the church that helps them to survive every month.
